PASSING OF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF BAYELSA STATE,HIS EXCELLENCY, SENATOR LAWRENCE OBORAWHAREVWO EWHRUDJAKPO, Ph.D.

The Bayelsa State Government announces with deep regret and profound shock the sudden passing of the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Oborawharevwo Ewhrudjakpo, Ph.D., on Thursday, 11th December 2025, at the age of 60.
The Deputy Governor was active and performing official duties earlier in the day. He reportedly collapsed suddenly while proceeding to a scheduled meeting in his office and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, where he was later pronounced dead.
His demise is not only deeply painful but also a monumental loss to the Government and people of Bayelsa State and the nation at large. Senator Ewhrudjakpo was a distinguished public servant who served Bayelsa State with dedication and integrity. He previously served with distinction as Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, and as Deputy Governor from 2020 until his passing.
On behalf of the Government and people of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, extends heartfelt condolences to the widow, Her Excellency, Barr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Ewhrudjakpo, their children, the entire Ewhrudjakpo family, the Ofoni Federated Community, His Excellency, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, and all citizens of Bayelsa State.
In honour of the late Deputy Governor, the Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri, has declared three (3) working days of State Mourning, with effect from today, Friday, 12th December 2025. During this period, all flags across the State are to fly at half-mast.
The Governor further prays that God Almighty grants the bereaved family and the entire people of Bayelsa State the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
May his gentle soul rest in the bosom of the Lord. Amen.
