SENATE MEETS EXECUTIVE ON MTEF – FSP
Abuja, Nigeria — December 15, 2025
An interactive session is currently holding between the Senate Committee on Finance and key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government on the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP).
The three-year economic framework, according to officials at the meeting, is designed to align fully with the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, with a focus on sustainable public finance management, revenue growth and prudent expenditure.
Speaking at the session, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, informed lawmakers that funding is available for the 2024 capital component of the budget, while about 30 percent of the 2025 capital expenditure has also been secured.
Mr. Edun further disclosed that circulars have been issued to MDAs on the Federal Government’s revenue optimisation programme for 2026. He explained that the initiative prioritises automation and the use of technology, mandating that all government payments be conducted through digital platforms to enhance transparency, efficiency and accountability.
Members of the Senate Committee on Finance are expected to scrutinise the proposals and engage further with the executive arm as part of the legislative process leading to the consideration and approval of the MTEF and FSP.
