HOUSE OF REPS CALLS FOR RENEWED COMMITMENT, COLLECTIVE FAITH IN NIGERIA

The House of Representatives has called on Nigerians to renew their commitment to the country and maintain collective faith in Nigeria’s potential as the nation marked its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued by the House spokesman, Akin Rotimi, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas urged citizens at home and abroad to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence while remaining committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.

The Speaker described the 66 years of independence as both a legacy to honour and a responsibility to uphold, stressing the importance of preserving the ideals that bind Nigerians together.
Abbas also reaffirmed the commitment of the House to its constitutional responsibilities of legislation, oversight and representation. He said the legislature would continue working to strengthen public institutions, improve citizens’ welfare and security, and uphold democratic principles capable of sustaining public confidence.
The call comes amid continued national efforts to address economic, security and social challenges. The House urged Nigerians to see nation-building as a shared responsibility requiring cooperation among citizens, government institutions and other stakeholders.
The Speaker further encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful about the country’s future, stressing that the nation’s human and material resources provide a foundation for continued progress when supported by responsible leadership, active citizenship and commitment to national unity.
The Independence Day message ultimately emphasised the need for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds that unite the country while contributing individually and collectively to the development of a more secure, inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
