Chief of Army Staff Boosts Girl-Child Education in Zamfara, Commissions Remodelled Government Girls Day Secondary School, Maradun

Maradun, Zamfara State — December 25, 2025

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commissioned the newly remodelled Government Girls Day Secondary School (GGDSS), Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in a move aimed at strengthening girl-child education and promoting sustainable community development.
The landmark project was executed under the COAS Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, underscoring the Nigerian Army’s commitment to education as a catalyst for national development and improved security.

Represented at the ceremony by the Theatre Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY), Major General Warrah Idris, the COAS emphasized the Nigerian Army’s strategic focus on community engagement and sustainable development. He noted that education remains a vital tool in addressing security challenges and building resilient communities.

“This initiative is a testament to the Chief of Army Staff’s belief that investing in education today secures a brighter future for the youth of Zamfara State and Nigeria at large,” Major General Idris stated.

The project facilitator and executor, Major General Mamman Galadima, a distinguished officer of Zamfara State origin, explained that the intervention involved the complete renovation of more than 36 classrooms, administrative offices, halls, and laboratories. According to him, the school now features modern infrastructure, upgraded roofing, and structural enhancements designed to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.

Major General Galadima described the project as a “beacon of hope” for education in Maradun, highlighting the Nigerian Army’s holistic approach to security, which prioritizes the welfare and future of children. He urged school authorities to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance for future generations.

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Wadatau Madawaki, praised the initiative, noting that it aligns with the state government’s efforts to revitalize the education sector. He described the project as a clear demonstration of the positive impact of collaboration and investment in education.

Also speaking, the Principal of Government Girls Day Secondary School, Maradun, Mrs. Suwaiba Muhammad Nafaru, expressed deep appreciation to Major General Galadima for his visionary leadership and for selecting the school among many in Zamfara State for the intervention. She noted that the renovation would significantly enhance teaching and learning while reinforcing the importance of girl-child education in the community.
The Emir of Maradun, Alhaji Garba Muhammad Tambari, commended Major General Galadima for his contributions, describing him as a proud son of the emirate whose legacy would endure for generations. As a mark of appreciation, the Emir presented an energetic horse to the Chief of Army Staff during the ceremony.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by senior military officers, dignitaries, and community leaders, including the Commander, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Mustapha Jimoh; the representative of the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Brigadier General N. N. Gambo; the Theatre Logistics Component Commander, Brigadier General Mbaka; the Chairman of Maradun Local Government Area, Sanusi Dosara; as well as traditional rulers and other key stakeholders.

Through this initiative, the Nigerian Army has once again reaffirmed its commitment to advancing education and community development as essential pillars for sustainable peace and progress in Zamfara State and across the country.
