World Bank Applauds Katsina’s Community-Driven Development Model, Hails Coordination through KTDMB

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, citizen participation and effective use of development funds, following a comprehensive review of World Bank-supported programmes in the state.

During a meeting with the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Mathew Verghis, and his delegation at the Government House in Katsina, Governor Radda thanked the bank for its continued partnership with the state. He promised to address implementation challenges and ensure that development financing produces measurable and sustainable benefits for residents.
Radda explained that his administration has adopted a community-driven development approach, allowing communities to identify their own priorities, participate in projects and take ownership of the outcomes. He cited the Community Development Programme and the ward-level participatory budgeting system as examples of efforts to give citizens a direct role in government planning.

The governor also highlighted the role of the Katsina State Development Management Board (KTDMB) in coordinating development partners, avoiding duplication of projects and ensuring that programmes align with government priorities and financing agreements.
The World Bank delegation said its visit was aimed at reviewing the progress and financial performance of World Bank-supported programmes in Katsina, including Investment Project Financing and Programme-for-Results operations.
The delegation commended Katsina State for improving coordination among development partners and for expanding community-driven development across sectors such as education, agriculture, livelihoods and social development.

The World Bank also praised the state’s participatory budgeting system and Community Development Programme, saying they promote community ownership, accountability and sustainability while ensuring that government interventions reflect the actual needs of residents.
