Governor Buni Approves Placement of Over 1,000 Medical and Health Sciences Students On Salary Scales, /Upgrade of CONMESS Salary, Allowances

The Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the employment of more than 1,000 medical and allied health science students currently undergoing training in higher institutions within and outside Nigeria.

Under the approval, 294 medical students have been employed on Grade Level 07/2, while 801 students studying Allied Health Sciences have been employed on Grade Level 05/2.

Governor Buni said the initiative is designed to provide an incentive and welfare support to the students as they pursue their various courses of study. He explained that the measure is expected to encourage them to remain committed to their studies and prepare them to contribute to the state’s healthcare system after completing their training.

The governor also approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for eight state-owned tertiary institutions and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The institutions covered by the approval include the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Gujba; Galtima Mai Kyari College of Health Science and Technology, Nguru; Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu; and the College of Administration, Management and Technology, Potiskum.

Others are Mai Idris Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam; Atiku Abubakar College of Education and Legal Studies, Nguru; and Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua, alongside other eligible MDAs.

In a related development, Governor Buni approved a review of the entry point for Veterinary Medical Officers into the state civil service. Their entry level will be moved from CONMESS 2/2 to CONMESS 3/2, with corresponding adjustments to the existing career structure from CONMESS 2/2–3/2, 3/1–4/1, 4/1–5/1, 5/1–6/1 and 6/1–7/1.

Similarly, the governor approved the implementation of the Consolidated Salary Structure for Law Officers in the Yobe State Ministry of Justice, as well as the placement of judiciary staff on the CONJUSS salary structure.

According to a statement issued by the Director-General of Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Mamman Mohammed, Governor Buni said the various approvals were aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of the beneficiaries.

He added that the measures are also expected to motivate the beneficiaries to demonstrate greater commitment and dedication in their respective fields and ultimately contribute to the development and delivery of essential services in the state.
