President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Muhammed Bello Bala Shagari on his election as Chairperson of the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organisation (NAMYO) for the 2026–2029 term.

The President described Shagari’s election as a significant achievement for Nigeria and a recognition of his contributions to youth development, leadership and international engagement.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said Shagari’s emergence reflects the growing role of Nigerian youths in international affairs and youth-focused leadership initiatives.

The President noted that Shagari, who previously served as Vice Chairperson of NAMYO for Africa and is also the President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, brings relevant experience to his new responsibility.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Shagari would use the opportunity to strengthen cooperation among young people across member states and promote initiatives that advance peace, sustainable development and youth participation in global affairs.

According to the statement, Shagari is expected to champion the aspirations and interests of young people across the Global South while promoting greater collaboration among youth organisations within the Non-Aligned Movement.

The President further reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to creating opportunities for Nigerian youths to contribute meaningfully to national development and take up leadership roles at both national and international levels.

He urged the newly elected NAMYO Chairperson to uphold the principles of service, inclusiveness, mutual respect and cooperation throughout his tenure.

President Tinubu also wished Shagari a successful tenure, assuring him of the Federal Government’s support as he assumes the new responsibility and represents Nigerian youth on the international stage.
