GOC COMMISSIONS NEWLY REMODELLED 6 MILITARY INTELLIGENCE BRIGADE BLOCK, CALLS FOR VALUE ADDITION BY COMMANDERS
Port Harcourt – 12 January 2026
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Emmanuel Eric Emekah, has charged commanders at all levels to prioritise value addition in the Nigerian Army through people-centric projects that directly impact the welfare of troops and their families.
The GOC gave the charge today, 12 January 2026, while commissioning a newly remodelled and completely renovated 6 Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) Block of 12 Flats, Corporal Below Quarters (CBQ), at Port Harcourt Barracks. The project was undertaken by the Commander, 6 MIB, Brigadier General David Umaru, with the aim of providing a conducive living environment for personnel and their families.
Major General Emekah noted that shelter remains a basic necessity of life, stressing that the renovated CBQ would significantly boost the morale of troops. He explained that the project aligns with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s Command Philosophy, which places premium emphasis on sound administration, particularly in the provision of accommodation and other welfare services for troops and their families.
The GOC further disclosed that during the recent operational visit of the COAS to 6 Division, he magnanimously approved the construction of additional accommodation blocks to address existing housing challenges within the Division. He therefore urged commanders not to delay in embarking on impactful projects upon assumption of command, noting that such initiatives would positively reflect on the wellbeing of personnel and their dependants.
Major General Emekah also called on beneficiaries of the newly commissioned facility to see the edifice as their personal property and take good care of it, observing that due to the number of years spent in one location, wards often regard military accommodation as their family homes.
Earlier in his remarks, the Commander, 6 Military Intelligence Brigade, Brigadier General David Umaru, stated that upon assumption of command in July 2025, he conducted an assessment of the living conditions of troops under his command and discovered that the facilities were no longer befitting. This, he said, informed his decision to embark on the remodelling and complete renovation of the block to improve the quality of life of his personnel.
He expressed profound gratitude to the GOC and other senior commanders for their tremendous support, which ensured the timely completion of the project, adding that their encouragement and assistance were instrumental in bringing the initiative to fruition.
Speaking on behalf of the occupants, Mrs Rose Duniya expressed appreciation to the GOC and the Commander, 6 MIB, for the gesture. She described the project as life-changing and pledged that the residents would take proper care of the newly renovated facility.
