JAMB Warns Universities Against Issuing Admission Letters

Published October 19, 2026 · Salama

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned universities and other tertiary institutions against issuing admission letters to candidates, insisting that the responsibility rests solely with the Board.

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, gave the warning when he received a delegation from a private university in his office.

Aina explained that JAMB is the only body statutorily empowered to issue official admission letters to candidates seeking admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

He expressed concern that some candidates might mistakenly assume that admission letters issued directly by their institutions are genuine and valid, potentially misleading them into believing they had secured recognised admission.

The registrar urged institutions engaging in the practice to desist and ensure that candidates obtain the appropriate admission documents through JAMB.

He further emphasised that only admissions processed and recognised through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) would be accepted for official purposes, including mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The Board’s warning underscores the importance of following established admission procedures to ensure that candidates’ admissions are properly processed and recognised.
