Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has dismissed reports alleging that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to share legislative and local government positions ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The Governor clarified that his commitment to the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not involve any agreement to share political offices with the Osun State chapter of the APC.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described reports of an alleged power-sharing arrangement as false, insisting that no agreement had been reached to distribute legislative seats between the political groups.

The clarification followed reports circulating on social media claiming that an alleged deal between the Governor and the Presidency included sharing local government positions, as well as seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly, between the Accord Party and the APC in the forthcoming elections.

The statement explained that ongoing negotiations to resolve the local government crisis in Osun State were aimed at protecting the interests of both APC local government chairpersons and elected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairpersons and councillors.

According to the statement, the negotiations are focused on resolving the lingering local government dispute rather than distributing political offices among the parties.

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that the common ground among the coalition partners was the presidential election and not an agreement to share legislative or local government positions.

The Governor also expressed confidence that the local government crisis would be resolved before the end of the year, while reiterating that reports of an agreement to share legislative seats with the Osun APC were “mere fabrication and fake news.”
