The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has welcomed Nigeria’s record $1.57 billion in diaspora remittance inflows recorded in the second quarter of 2026, describing the development as a significant contribution to the nation’s economic growth and financial stability.

The figure, recorded through International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs), represents an approximately 33 per cent increase compared with the $1.18 billion received during the corresponding period in 2025, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Q2 2026 Statistical Bulletin.

NiDCOM Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, welcomed the development, noting that the latest figures represent the highest quarterly remittance inflow in the available data series covering 2019 to 2026.

The $1.57 billion inflow also surpassed the previous record of approximately $1.47 billion recorded in the third quarter of 2024.

A breakdown of the figures shows that Nigeria received $513.81 million in April 2026, while inflows increased to $472.13 million in May and peaked at $580.16 million in June.

Dabiri-Erewa commended Nigerians living abroad for their continued financial support to families back home and their growing investments in critical sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, technology and information and communications technology.

She further highlighted the importance of diaspora remittances in strengthening Nigeria’s foreign exchange supply through formal financial channels, supporting household consumption, improving currency market transparency and enhancing economic resilience.

The Commission emphasised the need to sustain the positive trend by strengthening confidence in regulated international money transfer channels and creating a more favourable environment for diaspora investments.

The development underscores the growing economic importance of Nigerians abroad and the potential of their financial contributions to support national development, investment opportunities and long-term economic stability.
