Ibadan, Nigeria – November 3, 2025
The Federal Government’s determination to transform Nigeria into a leading maritime and logistics hub has gained new momentum with the official handover of the Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for 90 hectares of land by the Oyo State Government for the development of the Moniya Inland Dry Port.
Receiving the documents on behalf of the Federal Government, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Olufemi Oloruntola, described the gesture as a clear demonstration of partnership and shared vision between the Federal and State Governments to expand economic opportunities through modern trade infrastructure.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Anastasia Ogbonna, Oloruntola assured that the Moniya Inland Dry Port would serve as a strategic national asset aimed at bringing shipping services closer to importers and exporters. He noted that the project would significantly boost industrial and agricultural productivity across the South-West region by reducing logistics costs and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Lawal, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for its commitment to developing vital transport infrastructure nationwide. He reaffirmed the Oyo State Government’s unwavering support for the successful execution of the dry port project, emphasizing its potential to attract investment, create jobs, and strengthen the state’s position as a key commercial hub.
The Moniya Inland Dry Port, when completed, is expected to complement the country’s seaport operations, decongest coastal terminals, and facilitate seamless cargo movement to and from the hinterlands, reinforcing Nigeria’s ambition to become a maritime and trade powerhouse in Africa.
