NIGERIA SEEK CANADA’S SUPPORT ON ELECTRICITY GRID MODERNIZATION

The Federal Government has sought Canada’s support in modernising Nigeria’s electricity grid as part of ongoing efforts to improve power transmission, enhance energy reliability, and expand access to electricity across the country.

The request was made during high-level engagements between Nigerian and Canadian officials, where both sides explored opportunities for collaboration in grid infrastructure, renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, and capacity building for the power sector.
Nigeria emphasized that modernising the national grid is essential to reducing transmission losses, improving the stability of electricity supply, and supporting economic growth. The government also highlighted ongoing reforms aimed at attracting investment and strengthening the country’s power infrastructure.
Canada expressed interest in deepening cooperation with Nigeria in the energy sector, particularly through technical expertise, investment partnerships, and knowledge sharing. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions that will benefit businesses, industries, and millions of electricity consumers in Nigeria.
