NICRAT DG Applauds President Tinubu, Health Ministers Over National Cancer Institute Approval

The Director-General of the National Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (NICRAT), Prof. Usman Malami Aliyu, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the construction and equipping of a ₦302.3 billion National Cancer Institute.

Aliyu described the project as a “game changer”, saying it will strengthen cancer research, diagnosis, treatment, innovation and specialist training in Nigeria. The facility is expected to be completed within 36 months.
The NICRAT DG also commended the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Salako, for their leadership and support for the initiative.
According to Aliyu, the institute will help reduce medical tourism by providing advanced cancer care locally, while positioning Nigeria as a major centre for cancer treatment and research in Africa.
