Kebbi Police, Military Eliminate Terrorists, Recover Arms in Gumki Forest

The Kebbi State Police Command, working with military operatives, has eliminated scores of terrorists during a joint clearance operation in Gumki Forest, Kangiwa, Kebbi State, the police said on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the operation was conducted in the early hours of Monday as part of ongoing efforts to tackle terrorism and other criminal activities in the state.

Weapons, Equipment Recovered

The security operatives recovered several weapons and other items during the operation, including one PKT rifle with 174 rounds of live ammunition and one AK-47 rifle with 14 rounds of live ammunition.

Other items recovered were military camouflage uniforms, a pair of boots, two mobile phones, charms and four motorcycles.

The police said the operation targeted terrorist elements operating in the Gumki Forest area of Kangiwa.

Joint Operations Continue

The Police Command said the cleared area remains calm, while joint security operations are continuing to prevent criminal elements from regrouping and to restore security across affected areas.

Commissioner of Police Umar Hadejia commended the police and military personnel involved in the operation for what he described as their gallantry and dedication to duty.

Hadejia reaffirmed the command’s commitment to coordinated and intelligence-led operations against banditry, terrorism and other forms of criminality in Kebbi State.

He also urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

The latest operation underscores the continued reliance on coordinated police-military action in Nigeria’s fight against armed groups and other security threats, particularly in areas affected by terrorism and banditry.
