In a statement issued by the State House, President Tinubu celebrated Prince Olusi’s decades of contributions to public service, community development and the progressive political movement, describing him as a custodian of Lagos’ political heritage and a father figure whose wisdom and experience have continued to guide generations of political leaders.
The President recalled Olusi’s remarkable political journey, which began with his election as a councillor in the Lagos Town Council in 1962. He subsequently served as a member of the House of Representatives during the Second Republic and later held the position of Lagos State Commissioner for Commerce.
Tinubu noted that despite his many years in public service, the elder statesman has remained actively involved in political affairs, continuing to provide leadership and guidance as Chairman of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council.
According to the President, Olusi’s longstanding commitment to the progressive political tradition has made him an important figure in the political landscape of Lagos State, particularly through his role in promoting unity, continuity and responsible leadership within the movement.
The statement also highlighted Olusi’s contributions to the unity of Yorubaland, his commitment to the Islamic faith and his dedication to community development. His recent installation as the Baba Adini of Yorubaland was cited as further recognition of his contributions to religious and community affairs.
Describing the celebrant as his mentor, ally and counsellor, President Tinubu acknowledged the important role Olusi has played in his political journey and in the broader progressive family.
He noted that the elder statesman has consistently offered counsel, wisdom and direction during challenging periods, helping to maintain stability and strengthen relationships among political leaders.
The President also commended Olusi for his commitment to nurturing future generations of leaders and promoting educational development. He particularly highlighted the newly launched Prince Tajudeen Olusi Educational Fund, describing the initiative as a demonstration of the celebrant’s dedication to supporting education and creating opportunities for young people.
Tinubu further acknowledged Olusi’s efforts to preserve the history, traditions and cultural identity of Lagos, noting that documenting the state’s heritage would help younger generations understand the experiences, values and contributions of those who shaped its development.
The President said Olusi’s life of service, mentorship and dedication to community development provides an important example for emerging leaders, particularly at a time when experience, unity and responsible leadership remain essential to national progress.
He prayed for the celebrant’s continued good health, renewed strength, peace and happiness, expressing the hope that Olusi would live to celebrate his centenary and continue contributing to the development of Lagos State and Nigeria.
