Ondo State Government Orders Fumigation Of NAF Aircraft Crash Site, Distributes Health Kits

Published October 14, 2026 · Salama

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed the fumigation of the river where a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, following complaints by residents about a strong stench emanating from the water.

The intervention is aimed at reducing potential health risks and preventing possible disease outbreaks, as the river serves as a major source of livelihood for residents of Igbokoda and neighbouring communities.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, the governor also directed the Ilaje Local Government Council to provide water tankers for the continuous supply of potable water if the river is found to be severely polluted and unsafe for use.

The arrangement is expected to remain in place until a lasting solution is found to address the pollution concerns and ensure access to safe water for affected residents.

Governor Aiyedatiwa further directed the Ministries of Health and Environment to distribute nose masks and other essential health kits to residents to protect them from potential health hazards associated with the incident.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the Nigerian Air Force’s ongoing evacuation efforts while prioritising the safety, health and welfare of residents of the affected community.

The measures are expected to provide temporary relief to residents while relevant authorities address concerns over possible environmental contamination and its implications for public health and local livelihoods.
