NAF Strengthens Air Operations Management, Graduates 38 Air Range Managers

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has graduated 38 air range managers in a move aimed at strengthening air operations management, improving professional competence, and enhancing the effective coordination of military aviation activities.

The graduation underscores the importance of specialised training in supporting the Nigerian Air Force’s operational readiness and ensuring that air operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established military standards.
Air range managers play an important role in military aviation by overseeing designated areas used for flight training, weapons practice, operational exercises, and other aviation-related activities. Their responsibilities include coordinating the use of air ranges, monitoring training activities, identifying potential safety risks, and ensuring compliance with relevant operational procedures.

Effective air range management is essential to military operations because it helps prevent accidents, reduces operational risks, and ensures that personnel and equipment are used efficiently during training and exercises. It also supports better coordination among pilots, ground personnel, air traffic controllers, and other relevant units involved in aviation operations.
The graduation of the 38 personnel is expected to contribute to strengthening the Nigerian Air Force’s capacity to manage its training environments and support the safe conduct of air missions. Equipping personnel with specialised knowledge and practical skills can also improve decision-making, operational planning, and adherence to safety regulations.

Furthermore, the development of competent air range managers is important as military aviation continues to require advanced technical knowledge, effective communication, and strict compliance with established procedures. Properly managed air ranges provide an organised environment where aircrew can develop their skills, test operational capabilities, and prepare for mission requirements.
The initiative also highlights the importance of continuous professional development within the Nigerian Air Force. Regular training and specialised courses enable military personnel to acquire the expertise needed to respond to changing operational demands and maintain high standards of professionalism.

Through capacity-building programmes such as this, the NAF continues to focus on developing its workforce and strengthening the systems that support its aviation activities. The newly graduated air range managers are expected to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their training to improve air range administration, support operational effectiveness, and promote safer military aviation practices.
