APC Says 13 Million Members, Nationwide Structure Give Party Advantage Ahead Of 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says its estimated 13 million registered members, nationwide organisational structure and elected representatives give it a significant advantage over other political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this in Abuja while receiving a pre-election fact-finding mission of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), led by former Vice-President of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh.
Yilwatda said the APC had established an extensive political structure with more than 261,000 executive members across the country, supported by a membership database containing approximately 13 million registered members.
He explained that the database includes identification records linked to members’ National Identification Numbers and voter details to facilitate verification.

The APC Chairman also disclosed that the party controls 31 of Nigeria’s 36 governorship seats, 88 of the 109 Senate seats and 208 of the 360 seats in the House of Representatives.
According to the statement, more than 7,000 aspirants contested for various positions on the party’s platform ahead of the 2027 elections, which he described as evidence of the competition for the party’s tickets.
Yilwatda further revealed that the party had released and inaugurated its campaign council, commenced campaign activities and uploaded its candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s portal.
On preparations for the elections, he urged INEC to strictly adhere to its published timetable, emphasising that electoral rules must be applied equally to all political parties.
He, however, assured the ECOWAS delegation that the APC remained committed to democratic competition and would not use its numerical strength to undermine or suppress opposition parties.
Earlier, the leader of the ECOWAS mission and former Vice-President of Sierra Leone, Victor Bockarie Foh, said the delegation was engaging political stakeholders to assess Nigeria’s preparedness for credible, free and fair elections in 2027.
Foh explained that the mission’s assessment would be guided by systematic observation, verification and reliable data rather than assumptions.
He commended the APC National Chairman for providing information on the party’s membership strength, organisational structure and preparations for the forthcoming general elections.
