President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, demonstrated a powerful message of unity and religious harmony by breaking fast (iftar) with his Muslim colleagues on Monday evening in Abuja. The event, attended by senators from diverse religious backgrounds, highlighted Akpabio’s belief that “religion cannot divide us,” emphasizing the shared humanity among Nigerians.

In his address, Akpabio noted the synchronicity of the Christian Lenten and Muslim Ramadan periods, viewing it as a divine reminder that despite religious differences, both faiths worship the same Supreme God. He extended congratulations to all attendees for the occasion, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to come together in fellowship during Ramadan and Easter celebrations.

Akpabio underscored the significance of unity in serving humanity, stressing the importance of collaboration and mutual respect among individuals of different faiths. He emphasized that despite political disagreements and familial discord, Nigerians must work together as brothers and sisters for the benefit of the nation, guided by the principles of peace, love, and progress.

In response, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, expressed gratitude on behalf of the senators present, acknowledging Akpabio’s caring leadership and the symbolic importance of the invitation. He praised Akpabio’s commitment to the welfare of all senators and expressed optimism for a prosperous future for Nigeria under divine guidance.

Akpabio’s gesture serves as a poignant reminder of the potential for unity and cooperation in fostering national development, transcending religious and political divides. As Nigeria continues its journey towards progress and prosperity, such acts of inclusivity and solidarity are essential for building a harmonious and prosperous society for all citizens.
