Inauguration of Governing Councils for Federal Tertiary Institutions Set for July 4, 2024
The Federal Government has announced plans to officially inaugurate the governing councils and boards of Federal universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions on July 4, 2024. This development was disclosed by Prof. Aisha Maikudi, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, during her acceptance speech upon assuming leadership at the institution on Monday.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a total of 560 individuals to serve on these governing councils and boards across various tertiary institutions under federal ownership. These appointments mark a significant step in the administration’s efforts to enhance governance and oversight within the education sector.
Prof. Maikudi expressed optimism about the incoming councils and their potential to contribute to the advancement of academic excellence and administrative efficiency. She emphasized the crucial role of governance in steering institutions towards achieving their educational mandates and fostering development.
The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for July 4th, will formalize the roles and responsibilities of the appointed council members, who are expected to provide strategic direction and policy guidance for their respective institutions.
This move underscores the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalizing the education sector through effective leadership and governance structures, aimed at promoting quality education, research, and innovation across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
