Court Remands NURTW Chieftain Koko Zaria for Assaulting Nollywood Actor Baba Lawori

A Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded Ganiyu Oyedepo, a prominent chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), also known as Kokozaria, in prison custody for assaulting Nollywood actor Alhaji Ade Adele, popularly known as Baba Lawori.

Oyedepo was remanded following his arraignment on charges of conspiracy, assault occasioning harm, and conduct likely to breach public peace. The case, brought before Chief Magistrate B. Sonuga, stems from an incident that occurred on June 5, 2024, in Idimu, Lagos.

Prosecutor Morufu Animashaun, a legal officer from the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (FCIID), Alagbon, presented the charges. He told the court that Oyedepo conspired with his associates to assault Baba Lawori. During the altercation, one of Oyedepo’s ‘boys’ allegedly broke a bottle and inflicted a head injury on the actor.

Oyedepo pleaded not guilty to the charges, which contravene sections 411, 173, and 168 (1)(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The specific charges include conspiracy to commit a felony and assault occasioning harm, both punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The court has ordered Oyedepo to remain in custody until the next hearing. Further investigations are ongoing to locate the accomplices involved in the assault.
