Two students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, were abducted by gunmen in the late hours of Tuesday outside the university’s campus. The incident has sparked panic among students and raised concerns about security in the area.
According to a student of the institution, Ashar Lubem, who spoke to *PUNCH Online* on Wednesday, four students were initially kidnapped by the gunmen. “Some gunmen kidnapped four students outside campus yesterday evening. We have yet to hear from them. Everyone is in a panic mood because of the incident,” Lubem said.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer in Benue State, Catherine Anene, confirmed that two students were abducted. “We received the information yesterday evening that two students were kidnapped. We have commenced an investigation, and further details will be provided soon,” Anene stated.
The abduction has heightened fears among students and residents, with many calling for improved security measures around the university and its environs. Authorities are yet to provide additional details about the incident or the identities of the abducted students.
This development comes amid growing concerns over insecurity in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in educational institutions. The university community and security agencies are working to ensure the safe return of the students while investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
