Police Inspector Shoots Self to Death in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the tragic death of Inspector Ajele Oloyede, who reportedly shot himself on March 14, 2025. The incident occurred at about 1:20 PM, leaving the police force and the deceased’s family in shock.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, Inspector Oloyede was attached to the 78 Police Mobile Force (PMF) in Zamfara State but was on special duty in Ogun at the time of the incident.

The statement revealed that Tolorunloju Stephen, an officer attached to Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos, who was also on special duty at the same location, provided a preliminary account of the events. Stephen stated that he had just returned from Ikeja when he entered the security office and found Inspector Oloyede resting his head on a table. After exchanging pleasantries and briefly inquiring about Oloyede’s well-being, Stephen proceeded to the restroom.

Moments later, Stephen heard a gunshot and rushed back to find Inspector Oloyede lying in a pool of blood. With the assistance of a private security personnel, the injured officer was immediately rushed to Ota General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the attending doctor.

Recovery of Firearm and Autopsy

The firearm used in the incident has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the hospital for an autopsy. The police are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, including any possible foul play or mental health factors.
