The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Mustapha Marwana, a Katsina-born carpenter arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The DSS investigation panel found no evidence linking Marwana to the Ansaru terrorist group, including membership, financing, logistics or operational activities. Following the findings, DSS Director-General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi ordered his immediate release.

The Service also approved an initial ₦3 million compensation to help Marwana meet his immediate needs and restart his livelihood. He was subsequently released into the custody of his lawyer, Oghene Forgive.

The development is part of the DSS leadership’s reported efforts to compensate and support individuals cleared after investigations, with the agency saying such measures are aimed at protecting citizens’ rights, facilitating reintegration and strengthening public confidence in the Service.
