Oyintiloye asks APC to learn from Osun defeat, prepare for 2027 elections

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the party’s leaders and members to learn from its defeat in the August 15 governorship election and begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker, said the outcome should not discourage APC members but should serve as an opportunity to identify weaknesses, strengthen party structures and reconnect with voters at the grassroots.  

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner with 511,067 votes, while APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes.  

Oyintiloye called for greater unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation, urging members to listen more closely to the concerns of the people.

He also commended President Bola Tinubu, former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, James Faleke and APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru for their contributions to the party’s campaign and organisational efforts in Osun.  

According to him, the APC’s performance, despite losing the election, showed that the party remained a significant political force in Osun. He maintained that the party must now consolidate its structures and use the lessons from the election to position itself for a stronger outing in 2027.

“Our responsibility now is to learn from the outcome, remain united and prepare for the future.”

Oyintiloye had earlier described the 2026 Ekiti and Osun governorship elections as a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
