Police Name Imam and Four Others Killed in Zamfara Mosque Attack
Zamfara State, Nigeria – September 27, 2025
The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed a brutal attack on a mosque in Yandoton Daji town, located in Tsafe Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of an Imam and four other worshippers. The attack, carried out by terrorists during the morning prayer session on Friday, left the community shaken and mourning.
According to a statement released by the Commissioner of Police for Zamfara State, Ibrahim Maikaba, the assailants stormed the mosque while the victims were engaged in their morning prayers. The terrorists opened fire sporadically, killing five people on the spot. The victims have been identified as Sale Dangero, aged 75; Mamman Yaro, 72; Lawali Bataribas, 67; Malam Jafaru, a retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), 68; and Malam Safiyanu, 55.
In addition to the killings, three individuals were abducted during the attack. The kidnapped persons are identified as Danyaye Alhaji Gambo, Malam Basiru, and Ibrahim Bello. Efforts to secure their release and bring the perpetrators to justice are currently underway.
Commissioner Maikaba condemned the attack and reassured the public that security forces are intensifying operations to apprehend the terrorists and restore peace to the area. The Zamfara State Police Command called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
