The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council says President Bola Tinubu’s administration has recorded progress in the education sector through reforms aimed at expanding access to learning, improving teachers’ welfare and promoting stability in the academic calendar across tertiary institutions in the country.

A statement by the Council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, indicates that the Federal Government’s interventions, as outlined in the Federal Ministry of Education’s Nigerian Education Sector Renewal Initiative (NESRI) 2026 report, cover basic and secondary education, technical and vocational training, as well as tertiary education.

According to the statement, the reforms are anchored on six priority areas, including technical and vocational education, science and medical sciences, out-of-school children, girl-child education, digitalisation and education quality assurance.

The Council disclosed that the Federal Government allocated a record ₦3.52 trillion to the education sector in the 2026 budget and secured 552 million dollars for the HOPE-EDU programme, which targets 29 million children, more than 500,000 teachers and 65,000 public schools across the country.

The report also highlighted achievements under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, which has reportedly returned more than one million out-of-school children to formal learning. It added that 1,400 Tsangaya teachers have been trained, while 200 bilingual learning centres have been established across 17 northern states.

On girl-child education, the Council noted that the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme has reached 7.19 million girls, with 3.7 million enrolled in secondary schools.

It further stated that more than 10,000 schools have benefited from improved facilities through government interventions aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for pupils and students.

The statement also highlighted the government’s support for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, describing them as important components of efforts to improve access to higher education, develop practical skills and promote employment opportunities among young Nigerians.

The Council maintained that the reforms are designed to strengthen the education system through improved infrastructure, curriculum development, digital learning, teacher training and more efficient utilisation of available resources.

It added that the administration would continue to implement policies and programmes aimed at improving educational standards, strengthening institutional capacity and ensuring that more Nigerians have access to quality education.
