LASG Intensifies PHC Monitoring to Strengthen Quality Healthcare Delivery

The Lagos State Government (LASG) has intensified efforts to improve healthcare delivery at Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa and Epe through a comprehensive monitoring exercise under its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP).
The initiative, implemented through Health District III, is aimed at assessing service delivery standards, identifying operational gaps and ensuring that healthcare facilities provide safe, accessible and quality medical services to residents at the grassroots level.

The Permanent Secretary of Health District III, Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, disclosed this following a five-day fourth-quarter monitoring exercise conducted from October 19 to 23, 2026. The assessment covered several primary healthcare facilities across the three local government areas.
According to Adeleke, the exercise evaluated critical aspects of healthcare delivery, including medical services, nursing, pharmaceutical services, community health, laboratory operations, medical records management and environmental health services.

She explained that regular monitoring was necessary to ensure compliance with established healthcare standards, identify areas requiring improvement and strengthen accountability among healthcare providers.
The Permanent Secretary expressed satisfaction with the findings, noting that the assessed facilities had functional Ward Health Committees, Health Facility Management Teams and Quality Assurance Teams. She described these structures as essential to effective facility management, community participation and the continuous improvement of healthcare services.

Adeleke also disclosed that family planning commodities, vaccines and essential medicines were adequately stocked across the facilities inspected. She added that most centres had implemented recommendations from previous quality assurance visits, demonstrating progress in operational accountability and service delivery.
The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening primary healthcare through sustained investment in infrastructure, medical personnel, equipment and essential medical supplies.
Adeleke further emphasised that routine monitoring and evaluation would continue to ensure that healthcare facilities maintain appropriate standards and respond effectively to the medical needs of their communities.
She urged residents to take ownership of primary healthcare facilities within their communities by protecting public health assets, supporting government health initiatives and making use of available medical services.
The exercise reflects the state government’s broader efforts to strengthen its primary healthcare system and improve access to essential medical services. Through continuous assessment, improved accountability and community participation, the government aims to ensure that investments in primary healthcare translate into better health outcomes for residents across Lagos State.
