Court Denies Yahaya Bello’s Request to Cancel Arrest Warrant

The Federal High Court in Abuja has rebuffed the plea of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, to suspend legal proceedings concerning the N80.2 billion fraud allegations against him.

Former Governor Bello had sought to halt the legal process underway in his case, which is being heard by Justice Emeka Nwite. His request was based on the ongoing appeal lodged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Court of Appeal, responding to Bello’s contempt application against EFCC chairman, Ola Olukayode.

In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Nwite dismissed Bello’s request, rejecting the former governor’s argument that the legal proceedings should be suspended pending the outcome of the appeal at the Court of Appeal.

The court’s decision underscores the imperative of compliance with legal directives and the importance of upholding the integrity of the judicial process. As the legal proceedings continue, stakeholders await further developments in the case.
