UK-Based Media, Channel 4 News Visits Operation HADIN KAI, Hails Operational Successes in North East, Nigeria

A United Kingdom–based media delegation from Channel 4 News has commended the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), for the significant successes recorded in counter-terrorism operations across Nigeria’s North East region.

The delegation, led by Senior Producer and Team Leader Freddie Gower, visited the Headquarters Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Borno State, where they received detailed operational briefings on the progress made in the ongoing fight against insurgency.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Headquarters North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Mr. Gower explained that the purpose of the visit was to present to the international community the significant gains achieved by the Nigerian Armed Forces in combating terrorism.

Gower noted that Channel 4 News, headquartered in London, reaches a global audience and focuses on major human interest stories, terrorism, and asymmetric warfare. He stated that the visit would enable the team to gain first-hand insights into the operational environment through engagements with military commanders and members of local communities.

He expressed appreciation to the Theatre Commander for the warm reception accorded to the delegation, describing the visit as both insightful and rewarding. Gower commended the comprehensive operational briefings provided, stating that they offered a clear understanding of Operation HADIN KAI’s achievements, prevailing challenges, and steady progress in counter-terrorism operations.

In his remarks, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, reaffirmed the Command’s mandate to restore normalcy across the North East region. He emphasized that the objective remains to create a secure environment that allows socio-economic activities to flourish while sustaining and intensifying stabilization operations throughout the theatre.

Major General Abubakar described the visit as a reflection of growing international interest in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and assured the Channel 4 News team of the Command’s full cooperation in facilitating their assignment. He reiterated Operation HADIN KAI’s commitment to professionalism, transparency, and responsible engagement with the media.
The Theatre Commander further disclosed that OPHK has deliberately prioritized the protection of vulnerable communities through robust non-kinetic operations. He revealed that these efforts have facilitated the return of thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes.

He added that improved security conditions have enabled farm patrols aimed at boosting food security and have ensured sustained protection for humanitarian organizations delivering essential services, including medical care, nutrition support, vaccinations, and immunization programmes.

The visit by Channel 4 News underscores increasing global attention on Nigeria’s efforts to defeat insurgency and restore lasting peace and stability in the North East region.
