Nigeria Customs, TMPL Test Cutting-Edge Cargo Scanners in China Ahead of Deployment

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and Trade Modernisation Project Limited have completed factory acceptance tests for newly acquired non-intrusive inspection equipment and an electronic cargo tracking system in China.

The two-week exercise, led by Deputy Comptroller-General Oluyomi Adebakin, was conducted at the facility of Nuctech Company Limited.
During the exercise, the team carried out technical verification of the advanced scanners and electronic tracking system designed to improve cargo examination and enable real-time monitoring of goods from ports to their final destinations.

Deputy Comptroller-General Adebakin reaffirmed the commitment of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to leveraging technology to facilitate trade, optimise revenue generation and strengthen national security.
She described the factory acceptance tests as a critical quality assurance process aimed at ensuring that the equipment meets international operational standards before shipment to Nigeria.

According to her, the deployment of the scanners is expected to reduce the need for physical cargo examinations, curb cargo diversion, minimise human contact and improve operational efficiency across Customs formations.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Customs Service to modernise its operations through technology, enhance transparency and strengthen cargo monitoring across the country’s ports and other entry points.
