The Federal Government and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening local military equipment production as part of efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in Nigeria’s defence sector.

The renewed commitment underscores the government’s determination to reduce dependence on imported military hardware, strengthen indigenous technological capacity and position Nigeria as a major producer of defence equipment.

Through increased investment in local manufacturing, research and development, and strategic partnerships, the initiative is expected to enhance the operational capabilities of the Nigerian Armed Forces while supporting the growth of the country’s defence industry.

DICON remains a key institution in the government’s drive to develop indigenous defence technology and promote the production of military hardware, ammunition and other essential security equipment.

The renewed push is also expected to create employment opportunities, encourage technology transfer and strengthen Nigeria’s capacity to respond effectively to emerging security challenges.

Ultimately, the Federal Government’s collaboration with DICON reflects a broader strategy to build a sustainable defence manufacturing industry capable of meeting the country’s military needs and contributing to national security.
