FG TO DEPLOY AI-POWERED “INTELLIGENCE SHIELD”

Monaco / Abuja, Nigeria, Friday, May 15, 2026

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced plans to deploy a new AI-driven security architecture known as the Multi-domain Hybrid Intelligence Shield (HIS), a cutting-edge system designed to strengthen national defence and combat terrorism, piracy, and illegal mining across the country.

The initiative signals a major step in Nigeria’s push toward advanced military modernization and technology-driven intelligence operations.
High-level defence engagement in Monaco
The Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa (Rtd), led a high-level delegation to Monaco, where he witnessed live demonstrations of next-generation defence technologies.

The showcase featured advanced systems including:
• AI-powered threat identification and tracking
• Anti-drone interception and neutralisation systems
• High-precision radar detection tools
• Mobile surveillance and battlefield intelligence platforms

Officials described the demonstration as a critical step toward integrating artificial intelligence into Nigeria’s national security framework.
Strategic technology partnership
The project is being developed in partnership with leading defence technology firms, including MARSS UK Ltd and MPS Mikopowers Ltd. The collaboration is expected to focus on technology transfer, local capacity building, and deployment of intelligent surveillance infrastructure across high-risk regions.
According to defence sources, the Hybrid Intelligence Shield is designed to integrate real-time data from air, land, and maritime environments to provide a unified command response system capable of detecting and neutralising threats faster than conventional methods.

National security implications
Security analysts say the initiative could significantly enhance Nigeria’s ability to respond to asymmetric threats, particularly in regions affected by insurgency and maritime crime.
The Federal Government emphasized that the system will support broader national security objectives, including intelligence-driven policing, border monitoring, and protection of critical infrastructure.
Forward-looking defence strategy
The announcement reflects Nigeria’s increasing focus on defence innovation and partnerships with global technology firms to modernize its security architecture.

Officials say deployment phases will begin after further testing and integration exercises, with emphasis on sustainability and domestic technical participation.
The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reposition Nigeria’s defence capabilities for emerging global security challenges.
