APC NWC Waives Screening Requirements for President Tinubu Ahead of Primaries

Abuja, Nigeria,May 6, 2026

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, clearing him to participate in the party’s upcoming primary elections without appearing before a screening committee.

At its 188th meeting, the APC NWC resolved to deem President Tinubu as duly screened in line with the party’s constitution, citing provisions under Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv), which empower the committee to organise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances.

In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party explained that the decision was informed by the wide-ranging endorsements the President has received from key stakeholders.

These include the Progressive Governors Forum, leadership of the National Assembly, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025, as well as subsequent statutory engagements.

The party noted that as the incumbent President and leader of the APC—who was already screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries—subjecting him to another physical screening process would be “redundant and unnecessary.”
