SDP Insists On Gabam’s Expulsion From The Party

Abuja, Nigeria — May 19, 2026

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has declared that its former National Chairman, Shehu Musa Gabam, is no longer a member of the party, insisting that his suspension and subsequent expulsion were validly ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and convention in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

National Chairman of the party, Sadiq Gombe, made the declaration while addressing journalists shortly after a closed-door meeting with the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, in Abuja.

Professor Gombe stated that the party followed due process in handling the disciplinary actions against Gabam, stressing that all decisions were taken in line with constitutional provisions guiding the SDP and Nigeria’s electoral laws.
He maintained that the NEC and the party convention overwhelmingly endorsed the decision, thereby affirming that Gabam no longer has any authority or standing within the party structure.

The SDP chairman also reiterated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, discipline, and adherence to laid-down procedures, noting that the leadership remains focused on strengthening the party ahead of future political activities.

The meeting with INEC leadership, according to party officials, was part of ongoing consultations on party affairs and compliance with electoral regulations.
