IYABO OBASANJO SUSPENDS GUBERNATORIAL ASPIRATION AS APC NAMES ADEOLA CONSENSUS CANDIDATE
Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the suspension of her consultations toward the 2027 Ogun State governorship race following the emergence of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was confirmed at the Ogun APC Caucus meeting held on April 13, 2026, where party leaders agreed on Senator Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the flagbearer for the forthcoming election.

In a statement released after the meeting, Senator Obasanjo congratulated Senator Adeola on his emergence and wished him success in the journey ahead. She also expressed appreciation to the leadership of the party at both state and national levels for the opportunity to participate in the nomination process.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration,” she stated, signaling her alignment with the party’s consensus decision.
She extended gratitude to her supporters across Ogun State for their calm, steadfast support and trust throughout her consultations, noting that their encouragement remained a strong pillar during her political engagement.
The decision marks a significant moment in the build-up to the 2027 governorship election, as key stakeholders within the APC continue to consolidate efforts toward unity and a common goal.
Senator Obasanjo urged her supporters to remain committed, expressing confidence in the future and calling for patience, strength, and hope as the party moves forward.
