In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the deceased was reportedly found with injuries inside a private residential compound largely occupied by students. The police clarified that the location is not an official hostel owned or managed by the university.

The statement noted that preliminary investigations revealed that the student was discovered with injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, for medical treatment.

However, despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, he later died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The police said the individual or individuals responsible for the attack have not yet been identified, adding that investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the student’s death.

Following the report of the incident, police officers visited the scene, secured the area, and commenced a comprehensive investigation aimed at uncovering the facts surrounding the case and bringing those responsible to justice.

“The victim was found with injuries and taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where he later died while receiving treatment. The assailant is yet to be identified,” the statement said.

The Command emphasized that investigations remain ongoing and urged members of the public, particularly students and residents of the area, to remain calm and allow security agencies to carry out their work without interference.

Police authorities also cautioned against speculation and the spread of unverified information, warning that premature conclusions could heighten tensions and complicate ongoing investigative efforts.

The death of the student has generated concern within the university community and among residents of the state, with many awaiting the outcome of the police investigation.

The Federal University Birnin Kebbi, established in 2013, is one of Nigeria’s federal universities and attracts students from across the country.

As investigations continue, the Kebbi State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to conducting a thorough and transparent inquiry into the incident.

Authorities have also encouraged anyone with useful information that could assist investigators to come forward and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
