Power Minister Meets Heads of Agencies to Accelerate Electricity Sector Reforms

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has held a strategic meeting with heads of agencies under the Federal Ministry of Power as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and accelerate ongoing reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s electricity sector.

The meeting brought together leaders of key agencies within the power sector to discuss strategies for improving coordination, enhancing service delivery, and addressing persistent challenges affecting electricity generation, transmission, and distribution across the country.

Speaking during the engagement, Tegbe stressed the need for greater cooperation among institutions under the ministry, noting that the complexity of Nigeria’s electricity challenges requires a unified approach driven by innovation, accountability, and shared responsibility.

According to the minister, achieving sustainable improvements in power supply will depend largely on the ability of sector institutions to work together in implementing reforms and delivering measurable results for Nigerians.

He emphasized that stronger institutional collaboration would play a vital role in advancing the Federal Government’s reform agenda, expanding access to electricity, improving grid reliability, and creating an enabling environment for increased investment in critical infrastructure.

Tegbe noted that investments across the power value chain, including generation, transmission, and distribution, remain essential to meeting the country’s growing energy demands and supporting economic development.

The minister further stated that effective coordination among agencies would help remove operational bottlenecks, improve policy implementation, and strengthen the overall performance of the electricity sector.

Nigeria’s power sector has faced longstanding challenges, including inadequate generation capacity, transmission constraints, infrastructure deficits, and limited access to electricity in many communities. Successive governments have introduced reforms aimed at improving efficiency, attracting private sector participation, and enhancing service delivery.

Tegbe reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerians have access to stable, reliable, and affordable electricity, describing power supply as a critical driver of economic growth, industrialization, job creation, and improved living standards.

He said the government remains focused on implementing policies and reforms that will strengthen the sector’s resilience, increase investor confidence, and support national development objectives.

The minister also urged heads of agencies to remain committed to transparency, accountability, and innovation in carrying out their mandates, stressing that the success of ongoing reforms depends on the collective efforts of all stakeholders within the sector.

As Nigeria continues to pursue its energy transition and economic diversification goals, stakeholders believe that stronger collaboration among power sector institutions will be crucial in delivering sustainable electricity solutions and improving the quality of life for millions of citizens.
