US, Iran Reach Peace Agreement as Formal Signing Set for June 19

The United States and Iran have reportedly reached a peace agreement following months of heightened tensions and conflict, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.

The development was announced by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who said the agreement was achieved after intensive diplomatic negotiations involving multiple international stakeholders. According to Sharif, both countries have agreed to the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations across all fronts, including areas affected by the wider regional conflict. (Reuters)

The announcement was further reinforced by U.S. President Donald Trump, who declared on his Truth Social platform that the agreement with Iran was “now complete.”

In a statement, Trump congratulated all parties involved and announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most strategically important oil shipping routes. He also declared the immediate removal of the United States naval blockade that had been imposed during the conflict. (CBS News)

“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete. Congratulations to all,” Trump stated, adding that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened to global shipping. (CBS News)

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime corridor through which a significant portion of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies are transported. Analysts say any disruption to shipping through the waterway has immediate implications for global energy markets, fuel prices, and international trade.

According to reports, the agreement includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the termination of military operations linked to the conflict. However, several key issues, including aspects of Iran’s nuclear programme, are expected to be addressed during a separate period of negotiations following the signing ceremony. (Reuters)

Despite the announcements from Washington and Islamabad, some reports indicated that Iranian officials had not immediately provided detailed public comments on the final terms of the agreement, while questions remained regarding the positions of other regional actors affected by the conflict. Global markets are expected to closely monitor developments in the coming days, particularly the implementation process and the planned signing ceremony in Switzerland.

If successfully implemented, the agreement could mark a significant diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East, reduce regional tensions, restore stability to global energy markets, and open the door to further negotiations on long-standing security and economic issues between the two nations.
