Katsina Government Imposes Fresh Security Measures to Combat Banditry
The Katsina State Government has announced a series of stringent security measures aimed at curbing banditry and strengthening security across parts of the state affected by criminal activities.
The directives, approved by the administration of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, take immediate effect and are targeted at disrupting the logistics and operational networks of armed bandits responsible for attacks, kidnappings, and other security threats in the state.
According to the new measures, the sale, purchase, transportation, and storage of petroleum products in jerrycans have been prohibited throughout Katsina State. Authorities believe that restricting access to fuel in portable containers will limit the ability of criminal groups to sustain operations in remote locations.
In addition, the government ordered the immediate closure of all Point of Sale (POS) businesses and commercial phone charging centres in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas, two areas that have experienced security challenges in recent months.
The state government also announced a complete ban on the use of motorcycles in Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. Security officials have frequently linked the use of motorcycles to the movement of armed groups and the execution of attacks in rural communities.
Residents of the affected areas have been directed to comply fully with all security directives as part of collective efforts to restore peace and stability.
The government emphasized that community cooperation remains critical to the success of ongoing security operations. Residents were therefore urged to provide credible intelligence and useful information to security agencies to aid the fight against banditry.
Officials noted that information from local communities has continued to play a vital role in tracking criminal elements and preventing attacks.
The latest directives form part of a broader strategy by the Katsina State Government to complement ongoing military and security operations across the state. Katsina remains one of several states in Nigeria’s North-West region grappling with security challenges linked to banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and attacks on rural communities.
Governor Radda’s administration reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, stating that all necessary measures would continue to be taken to improve security and support the efforts of security agencies.
The government further warned that the directives would be strictly enforced and that individuals or businesses found violating the Executive Order would face appropriate legal sanctions without exception.
Security analysts note that restrictions on fuel supply, transportation, and communication-related services have increasingly been adopted in some states as part of efforts to weaken the operational capabilities of criminal groups.
As implementation begins, authorities have called for patience, understanding, and cooperation from residents, expressing confidence that the measures will contribute to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security across affected communities in Katsina State.
