Abuja, Nigeria, Friday, May 15, 2026

The Nigeria Police Force has extradited a wanted cyber fraud suspect, Samuel Ugberease, popularly known as “Putsammy” and “Putput,” to the United States over allegations of online romance scams and wire fraud.

In a statement issued by the Force, the suspect was formally handed over to U.S. authorities following coordinated investigations between the INTERPOL NCB Abuja and law enforcement agencies in the United States.
According to investigators, between 2014 and 2018, Ugberease and his alleged syndicate used fake dating profiles to deceive and defraud several women in the United States. One of the victims was reportedly defrauded of over $1.5 million in the elaborate scheme.

The suspect was initially arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in December 2025 after an INTERPOL Red Notice was issued at the request of U.S. authorities.

Subsequently, the Federal High Court approved his extradition in accordance with Nigeria’s extradition laws, paving the way for his transfer.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying the fight against cybercrime and strengthening international cooperation in tackling transnational financial crimes.
