TRACE ISSUES TRAFFIC ADVISORY AHEAD OF OGUN @ 50 CELEBRATION

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, has issued a traffic advisory to residents and motorists ahead of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ogun State.

According to the agency, the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Gateway State will hold from Monday, February 2, to Thursday, February 5, 2025, with a series of events planned to commemorate the milestone.

TRACE explained that due to the expected increase in human and vehicular movement, traffic diversions and temporary road closures will be implemented, particularly within the Central Business District of Abeokuta, the state capital. The major disruption is scheduled for Thursday, February 5, 2025, during the Cultural and Carnival Float Parade, which will round off the anniversary celebrations.

Routes to be diverted will take effect from the second gate of the Government House. Traffic from Sapon, Imo and Grammar School heading towards Ibara Under Bridge will be diverted at Liberty Junction into Okeyeke-Amolaso. Motorists coming from Oke-Mosan towards Kuto via the bridge will be diverted at the SWAT Junction through NNPC and Iyana Mortuary.

Vehicles from Ita-Eko via the bridge heading towards Lalubu and Oke-Ilewo will be diverted towards UBA to pass under the bridge, while those heading to Panseke from Ita-Eko will have access through the front of Domino Pizza. Traffic from Iyana Mortuary attempting to access Kuto will be diverted towards Olorombo, while motorists heading to Oke-Mosan, Laderin, Kobape and the Interchange will pass through the NNPC Under Bridge. Traffic from Mapoly and Onikolobo towards Ibara Under Bridge will be diverted towards Oluwo.

TRACE also listed several routes that will be temporarily blocked to allow free movement for the Carnival and Cultural Parade convoy. These include MTD Junction, Jide Jones Road in Omida, Iyana Ijeja, Idi-Ishin, openings in front of Eco Bank and Fidelity Bank, the opening beside Con Oil Filling Station, Ibara Under Bridge, Saint Benedict Entrance at Lalubu Gate, access roads beside Rojabs and before OPIC at Lalubu, Old Governor’s Office Road, Sweet Sensation Road, Zone 2, GTBank Junction, Kuto Under Bridge, the entrance of Park Inn Radisson Hotel, the NNPC Under Bridge turning inbound MKO Sports Arena, and SWAT Junction towards the NNPC Bridge.

The agency stressed that the road closures are temporary and will last for about one hour, solely to ensure a smooth passage for the parade convoy. TRACE appealed to motorists to cooperate and share in the celebratory spirit surrounding the event.

TRACE assured the public that its operatives, alongside other security and safety agencies, will be deployed to all diversion points and blocked routes to manage traffic, maintain order, and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Motorists visiting the MKO Sports Arena were also advised to obey parking regulations to avoid vehicle clamping or other sanctions for traffic infractions.

TRACE apologised for any inconvenience the traffic diversions and road closures may cause.

The statement was signed by the TRACE Public Relations Officer, Commander Babatunde Akinbiyi, and dated January 31, 2026.
