SECURITY THREATS: KOGI STATE GOVERNOR ODODO DIRECTS ALL SCHOOLS TO BEGIN MID-TERM BREAK IMMEDIATELY

Lokoja, Kogi State — 4 February 2026

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has directed all public and private schools in the state to proceed on an emergency mid-term break with immediate effect, beginning from Wednesday, 4 February 2026, due to prevailing security threats.
The directive was communicated through an urgent notice issued by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Kogi State chapter, which emphasized strict compliance and warned of severe consequences for any school that fails to adhere to the order.

In a statement signed by the State Chairman of NAPPS, PST. Reuben Jimoh, school proprietors were informed that the decision emanated directly from the Executive Governor of Kogi State. The notice read in part:

“This is an important information and announcement from the Executive Governor of Kogi State. All schools in Kogi State must go on emergency mid-term break Wednesday, being 4/02/2026. Don’t announce the resumption because we don’t know yet what will happen before Monday. Please strictly comply with this directive; if not, your approval will be revoked.”
The statement further clarified that the emergency directive was issued as a result of ongoing security issues within the state.

No resumption date was provided, and school authorities have been expressly advised against announcing any return date for students, as the security situation remains fluid and unpredictable.

Parents and guardians have been urged to remain calm and monitor official government communication channels for further updates regarding resumption. School proprietors, on their part, have been directed to comply fully with the order to avoid the risk of revocation of their operating approvals.
The emergency measure underscores the state government’s resolve to prioritize the safety and security of students, teachers, and school administrators across Kogi State.
