Suleja, Niger State, Nigeria — March 23, 2026

The Honourable Minister of Defence (HMOD), Christopher Gwabin Musa, has flagged off the Senior Executive Career Transition Programme (SECTP), an initiative of the Nigerian Army aimed at preparing senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria for a smooth transition to civilian life after active service.

The programme, executed by the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, was officially launched at Zuma Rock Resort, Suleja, in a ceremony attended by top military leadership. Among those present was the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Sunday Kelvin Aneke, whose participation underscored the Nigerian Air Force’s continued commitment to personnel welfare.

The residential training programme, scheduled to run from March 22 to April 4, 2026, is designed to equip participants with essential knowledge in retirement planning, financial management, career reinvention and entrepreneurship. It also addresses the psychological aspects of transitioning from military to civilian life, while offering corporate immersion opportunities, venture support initiatives and mentorship sessions with accomplished retired senior officers.

In his remarks, the Defence Minister described the initiative as a proactive and strategic investment in human capital development. He emphasized that the responsibility of military leadership extends beyond active service, noting the importance of adequately preparing personnel for life after retirement.

The presence of the Chief of the Air Staff highlighted the Nigerian Air Force’s alignment with broader service-wide efforts to institutionalise structured career transition programmes. Such initiatives, he noted, are critical to boosting morale, sustaining professional effectiveness and reinforcing confidence among serving personnel.

The SECTP reflects the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s enduring commitment to prioritising the welfare of its personnel through people-centred policies, while also strengthening inter-service collaboration and long-term institutional resilience.
