Olukoyede charges Guinness management on regulatory compliance
Abuja, Nigeria, May 12, 2026
The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ola Olukoyede, has charged the management of Guinness Nigeria Plc to sustain strict compliance with rules and regulations in the conduct of its business operations in Nigeria.
Olukoyede gave the charge on Tuesday while receiving the management team of the company, led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Girish Sharma, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
The EFCC chairman stressed that regulatory compliance remains essential for sustainable business operations, noting that organisations that fail to comply with financial and regulatory obligations ultimately incur greater costs.
He commended Guinness Nigeria for its emphasis on compliance and encouraged the company to sustain its corporate governance standards and responsible business culture.
Olukoyede also praised the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, describing them as evidence of its commitment not only to profitability but also to giving back to society.
According to him, the EFCC’s mandate goes beyond investigation and prosecution to include prevention of financial crimes through risk assessment, regulatory monitoring, and collaboration with both public and private sector institutions.
He noted that the Commission also pays close attention to tax compliance, stressing that failure to file tax returns or pay appropriate taxes constitutes financial offences under Nigerian law.
Speaking during the visit, Sharma reaffirmed the company’s confidence in the Nigerian economy, stating that Guinness Nigeria has maintained operations in the country for 76 years despite economic challenges.
He noted that while several multinational companies had exited Nigeria in recent years, Guinness Nigeria remained committed to its investments and long-term presence in the country.
Also speaking, the company’s Corporate Relations and Legal Director, Rotimi Odusola, said the organisation remains committed to conducting its business in line with extant laws and regulations.
Odusola stated that compliance, integrity, and responsible corporate conduct remain central to the company’s operational philosophy and business practices in Nigeria.
