Troops Overpower ISWAP Attack on Gonori, Eliminate Scores of Terrorists

Borno State, Nigeria, May 10, 2026

Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters on the 120 Task Force Battalion in Gonori, eliminating scores of terrorists during the operation.

According to a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Sani Uba, the terrorists launched the attack in the late hours of Saturday, May 9, 2026.

The statement noted that troops, with support from the Air Component of the theatre and the Nigerian Army Aviation, carried out a coordinated air-land assault that successfully overwhelmed and decimated the retreating terrorists.

Military authorities said a general assessment of the area revealed extensive battle damage inflicted on the attackers, who reportedly suffered heavy casualties during the encounter.

Several arms and bodies of the terrorists were recovered after the operation, while wounded soldiers are said to be in stable condition and currently receiving medical attention.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups across the North East region and restoring lasting peace and security.
