President Tinubu Celebrates Pa Reuben Fasoranti at 100

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to elder statesman, pro-democracy activist, and Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, on the occasion of his 100th birthday anniversary.
In a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Pa Fasoranti was described as a symbol of integrity, honesty, discipline, and selfless service to Nigeria.
The statement noted that the elder statesman has lived an exemplary life dedicated to national development, with significant contributions to education, politics, and Nigeria’s democratic struggle.
President Tinubu also highlighted Fasoranti’s academic achievements at the University of Ibadan, the University of Hull, and Maguire University in Sydney, Australia.
The President commended his contributions to the education sector through years of teaching and the establishment of schools in Ondo State, including Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure High School, and St. Frances’ Academy, founded in memory of his late wife.
Describing him as one of the last surviving disciples of Obafemi Awolowo, the President recalled Fasoranti’s involvement in the defunct Action Group and the Unity Party of Nigeria, as well as his service as Commissioner for Finance in old Ondo State under the administration of late Adekunle Ajasin between 1979 and 1983.
Tinubu praised the elder statesman’s integrity and financial prudence in public office, alongside his active role in the struggle against military dictatorship and his continued advocacy for Yoruba unity and development through Afenifere.
The statement also reflected on the challenges Pa Fasoranti endured, including an assassination attempt during the military era and the tragic killing of his daughter, Funke Olakunrin, in 2019.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the elder statesman’s prayers and support throughout his political journey, especially during the presidential campaign, and prayed for continued good health, strength, and more years of impactful service.
