APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda Screens Imo Governor Hope Uzodinma for 2027 Imo West Senatorial Bid
ABUJA, NIGERIA – MAY 9, 2026
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has screened Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, ahead of his bid for the Imo West Senatorial seat in the 2027 National Assembly election.
The screening exercise is part of the party’s internal preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections as aspirants seek the party’s endorsement for various elective positions across the country.
Political observers note that if Governor Uzodinma wins the Imo West Senatorial election scheduled for January 2027 and is sworn into office in June 2027, he would be required to resign from his position as governor approximately six to seven months before the expiration of his tenure, which is expected to end in mid-January 2028.
Under such a scenario, the Deputy Governor of Imo State would constitutionally assume office as governor for the remainder of the administration’s tenure.
Party stakeholders and supporters who attended the screening described the development as a strategic move ahead of the next electoral cycle, while APC leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening the party’s structure across the country.
