Ibadan, Nigeria, March 27, 2026
NNPC Ltd. actively participated in #CERAWeek by S&P Global in Houston, where Olugbenga Oluwaniyi served as a panelist in the session “African Energy Sovereignty: The ‘all-of-the-above’ strategy.”
The discussion, moderated by Daniel Evans, also featured Bambo Ibidapo-Obe and Alcides Andrade.
Oluwaniyi emphasized Nigeria’s strategy for energy self-determination through control of resources and a diversified energy mix. He highlighted the country’s proven gas reserves of 210 trillion cubic feet (tcf), comprising 101 tcf of associated gas and 109 tcf of non-associated gas, describing Nigeria as “a gas-rich nation with some oil reserves.”
He underscored gas as the nation’s transition fuel, critical for a just and fair energy transition, and noted that Nigeria’s gas sector will remain relevant well beyond crude oil. Oluwaniyi also stressed the importance of bankable projects with clear value propositions, realistic financial projections, and risk mitigation measures, including tackling pipeline vandalism through community engagement.
Highlighting investment priorities, he pointed to gas infrastructure development as a key area for the foreseeable future, reinforcing Nigeria’s position as a preferred destination for major energy investments.
The panel discussion affirmed Nigeria’s commitment to sustainable energy growth while leveraging its gas resources to secure economic and strategic advantage.
